Zuitt is a coding bootcamp based in Singapore, staffed by Filipino experts and led by a Japanese serial entrepreneur CEO with IPO experience. Its diverse community ensures that students can compete with graduates from programs across the globe.
Zuitt has solidified its position in the Philippines, making it possible for companies to find high-quality tech talent in a country where 90 percent of software is said to be developed for export purposes. Many of these are multinational companies with international standards for their developers. Now, more companies have expanded into the country, creating increased demand and opportunities for people in underserved areas who want to get into software development.
Zuitt’s endeavor would have been futile without making its graduates into attractive candidates. Through its career preparation services, the school ensures that all of its graduates are ready for the next step into a new career.
What to Expect from Zuitt’s Career Training Sessions
Zuitt’s career preparation covers all aspects of the job hunting experience. Students learn from an interview guide that prepares them for a new type of interview. They also attend prep sessions to rebuild their job hunt materials.
Help is also rendered with career roadmaps during one-to-one meetings to personalize their career paths. Lastly, students learn common scenarios that they may encounter on the job along with tips to help their careers progress.
Resume Building
This session teaches students how to create a resume that stands out during their job hunt. The resume is designed to be concise, honest, and true to the student while reflecting what the employer is looking for in the position. Students also learn how to create a LinkedIn profile with a step-by-step guide, before receiving feedback on their resumes and LinkedIn from Zuitt’s career advisors.
Interview Guide
Zuitt’s interview preparation begins with an Interview Guide presentation, where students cover a few topics, including a segment on company background checking. Here, they learn how to investigate their potential employers. Then, they are taught how to prepare answers for common interview questions and form an interview day checklist. The checklist includes a to-do list before in-person and online interviews.
Lastly, students learn to build rapport with their interviewer through positive body language, and they learn what to avoid during their interview sessions. After each topic, they put what they learned into practice through an engagement opportunity.
Job Hunting Sessions
Zuitt encourages students to start their job hunt before completing the program. To support them, Zuitt’s professionals provide solutions—technical and emotional. Students learn how to navigate issues typically encountered when job hunting and receive advice from Zuitt to maintain their morale.
Zuitt’s career advisors also hold one-on-one check-ins to check their students’ progress, challenges, and issues during the program. These meetings continue throughout the course to give students steady support.
Mock Technical Exams
As students enter the tech field, they’ll have to complete technical exercises to prove their skills to potential employers. These sessions include coding exercises so students can keep their skills sharp during the job hunt. As they complete these exercises, Zuitt instructors help prepare them to tackle these tests in a real interview setting.
Career Road-Mapping
Many students who plan on entering the tech field may not have a clear picture of what’s waiting for them. The career road-mapping sessions help students take inventory of the skills they’ve learned in their Developer Career Program. Next, Zuitt’s career team gives students tips on advancing their careers as software engineers and web development. These sessions help them learn about the different paths they can take as their career continues.
Commencement Day
Students meet Zuitt’s CEO and Founder Tomohisa Kato on their final day in the program. Tomohisa gives them an encouraging talk on their commencement day, as they prepare to enter the tech workforce.
Post-Graduation Support
After commencement, students can still take advantage of the career check-ins to help with job applications and more. Zuitt continues to review and update its curriculum to develop relevant short courses for its alumni. These courses allow the alumni to take advantage of Zuitt’s course structure for years after graduating.
Zuitt continues to monitor its graduates’ progress through surveys and feedback. With remarks from graduates, along with information from the job market, Zuitt builds more short courses for specific languages, tools, and applications that employers commonly require.
Is Zuitt Bootcamp Worth It? Hear from Two Alumni
From Physical Therapist to Web Developer
Deen Matulin graduated with a BS in Physical Therapy. After working for a while, he felt the medical field wasn’t for him, and he saw Zuitt as a path to a new career in a future-proof field. Software is only going to become more prevalent as time rolls on, and Deen relished the chance to try something new while entering a booming field.
“With recent trends, I am seeing that the web is set to be the go-to platform for everything,” Deen said. “With cloud services, and even web applications gaining traction, it presents endless possibilities in terms of what we can do with the web. Being a web developer is a good start to being on top of all that.”
Deen decided to attend Zuitt because of the company’s reputation. He was doing his research into good web development programs, and the bootcamp kept showing up in his results. Before he started the bootcamp, he wanted to spend some time learning on his own, but his experience with self-study prepared him to accept the support at Zuitt.
“Prior to joining the bootcamp, I’ve committed myself to months of self-learning,” Deen said. “I initially planned to go through this route but I quickly found myself in need of mentorship. I can confidently say that the bootcamp has filled in the gaps in my knowledge, as well as equipped me with career expectations and strategies, which was my main goal all along.”
Those career strategies have already paid off, as it didn’t take Deen long to find a job after graduation.
“Thankfully, I landed a job as a developer shortly after graduating from the bootcamp,” Deen said. “For that, I thank Zuitt for equipping me with the necessary skills to get my foot in the door and hopefully thrive in my career.”
Deen believes that having that passion to learn is the biggest necessity for anyone that wants to do well in this beginner-friendly course.
“As someone who has experienced the entirety of the bootcamp curriculum, I find that it is beginner-friendly and ramps up the longer it goes,” Deen said. “The only things someone needs are interest and drive to learn. If anyone I know possesses both of these, then I’ll gladly recommend signing up for the course.”
Deen’s not alone in the value he found in the course. Our other alum also saw the rising need for tech workers and decided that the bootcamp would help her give better guidance to her clients.
A Career Counselor Preparing for the Future of Work
Mariko Tofuku is a Japanese career counselor who worked for over a decade as a controller and accountant at a German company. Mariko’s background isn’t in tech, and she’s still working as a counselor after completing her bootcamp.
It may seem odd that she decided to attend a coding bootcamp without trying to make a career change afterward, but Mariko believes that coding is important for everyone in every career.
“For about 10 years now, people have been saying that what we need in the future are English and coding,” Mariko said. “In fact, since 2020, programming classes have been compulsory in [Japanese] elementary schools. I think the world will be a very different place in 10 years when the current elementary school students start to work.”
Mariko learned English from Filipino tutors for seven years at RareJob English, a former company of Zuitt CEO Tomohisa Kato. She discovered Zuitt’s course on Twitter while undergoing English coursework.
“I was taking an online English tutorial lesson taught by Filipinos, and I tweeted about it,” Mariko said. “And the president of the online English school retweeted it before the former president, Mr. Kato liked it. I went to his timeline, and found that he was now the president of a company called Zuitt, announcing that he was going to start classes globally.”
Through her job as a career counselor, Mariko was well aware of the prominent role coding will play in the future of work. She felt it was the perfect time to take the course, and decided to sign up. As she was entering the course after its 80th cohort, she felt it would be more refined, and she’d already had a positive experience with another product of Tomohisa.
Her work was one of the main motivators that got her to take the course. She’d tried to impress upon her clients that tech was important in forming a well-rounded career, but she felt that she didn’t have the proper knowledge to get her point across.
“No matter how I tried to [convince] them, it was hard to do so as I didn’t know coding first hand,” Mariko said. “That’s one of the reasons why I decided to take this course.”
Mariko was worried that her proficiency in English might hold her back from success but decided to move past her fears and jump into the course. In doing so, she noticed several benefits that she felt might help convince her clients who are seeking career advice. For example, coding may be a way for data entry professionals to increase efficiency.
“If you work at a company, you probably download CSV files and process them in Excel in your daily work,” Mariko said. “It takes an hour or two to process the file, including taking out commas and correcting misalignments so that the numbers fit correctly in the cells. However, if you can code, the process can be completed in five seconds. This is what impressed me.”
Along with increasing efficiency, Mariko felt that these skills might make employees stand out to their supervisors. Given the career road-mapping Zuitt students already perform, they’d have a sense of the path through a company’s ranks. As such, she opined that the skills obtained at Zuitt can help them reap career benefits quickly.
“What would you do if you were a manager? If a person who can do a job in five seconds that used to take one or two hours joins the company?” Mariko said. “I would highly value that person [and] may deserve one and a half times the compensation of their colleagues.”
Mariko was impressed with the possibilities of Zuitt’s career services as well. As an individual that’s helping people find their next career move every day, she has seen what’s possible with coding after graduation.
“Zuitt has career advisors who can help you find a job,” Mariko said. “I heard that they provide very specific support such as finding jobs at companies overseas. So, I think it’s good for people who want to spread their wings.”
If Mariko wasn’t already set in her career, she feels as if she would have taken her fellow advisors up on their offer. She believes that everyone will have to learn to code eventually and that Zuitt gives people the opportunity to pursue worldwide success. It may take some courage, but she says the benefits outweigh the risks.
“Unfortunately, if you stay in your comfort zone, you can’t have much hope,” Mariko said. “Zuitt’s Developer Career Program is very good for people who want to go global. If I were younger, I would have become a developer and aimed for the world.”
