The increasing number of online self-education platforms has changed the educational landscape forever. With the increasing use of technology, anyone can learn from online videos, blogs or web articles, and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs).
While most MOOCs use videos to teach lessons, there is steep competition for attention against other websites and social media. Over time, video courses have gone down from 30 minutes to seven minutes to cater to people’s attention span. By comparison, people have a longer attention span for audio of seven to 15 minutes.
A study by NCBI shows that 73 percent of the respondents prefer learning through a single modality, and 36 percent of them are auditory learners. Auditory learners are people who grasp and retain information more effectively by listening.
To address the growing demand for a mobile platform that caters to auditory learners, Yehoshua Zlotogorski and Guy Hadash established Alpe Audio.
Alpe Audio is a mobile-first learning platform offering structured audio courses, tailored for on-the-go learners.

Alpe Audio is a mobile app that aims to redefine the learning experience of young professionals and other users who are always on the go. Founded in 2019, Alpe Audio is the brainchild of Yehoshua who came up with the idea while he sat in traffic, faced with his own struggle to juggle studies and work.
In an interview with Ness Labs, Yehoshua said that he only had time to study during his commute and short breaks for his exams because of his busy schedule. He would watch YouTube videos and MOOCs courses to hone his knowledge.
But as a busy professional who is always on the go, he has generally relied on podcasts and audiobooks. Learning by listening has also allowed him to multitask—something that he found difficult to do with video-based learning, which requires your full attention to the screen. However, they were not as effective as he expected.
“I found myself pulling over to the side of the road anytime I heard something I wanted to remember, then pulling out my phone, writing down notes, and sending myself an email with the notes so that I wouldn’t forget it,” Yehoshua said.
As the name suggests, audiobooks are merely audio versions of books. While they are a great source of information, the structure of audiobooks is unlike courses. Listeners have to pause and rewind the audio clip to keep up.
The team at Alpe Audio commits to solving these learning obstacles on its platform in three ways. First, its audio courses leverage the power of storytelling to explain complex concepts in a simple yet engaging manner, thus avoiding cognitive overload. Second, Alpe Audio is designed to be highly accessible for people from all walks of life.
Finally, the app aims to drive Yehoshua’s goal of encouraging people to commit to a habit of lifelong learning to boost their employability and improve their overall well-being.
How Does Alpe Audio Design Its Courses?
Alpe Audio courses last between three to eight hours, with at least 10 lessons each. Three elements ensure that users can effectively learn from Alpe Audio courses: repetition, interleaving, and chunking.
In every lesson, the repetition of key concepts helps users retain information. Related concepts are also tackled at the same time in a technique called interleaving. Interleaving is when students learn about two or more similar concepts in an alternating pattern. According to the American Psychological Association, the benefits of this method include:
- Improving a learner’s skill to differentiate similar concepts from each other
- Allowing learners to absorb new skills rapidly
- Improved abilities to focus and set goals
Finally, complex ideas are split into smaller pieces, in a process called chunking, to make it easy for users to understand and absorb the information. So, what can you learn on Alpe Audio?
