Many people interested in coding bootcamps and short-term programs are usually new to the tech industry. Some have little or no exposure to tech-related jobs and careers but are interested in the field and motivated to learn more. Often, they are currently working in another type of industry but see the opportunities of a career in tech. For prospective students with zero tech background, there are dozens of bootcamps and schools to choose from.
On the other hand, other potential students are already working in the tech field and have some tech background but want to upskill themselves into becoming data science specialists. They want a change from their current professional roles and are interested in more challenging responsibilities. They might also be looking to climb the career ladder. If you see yourself as a part of this group, we invite you to take a closer look at Turing College’s Data Science course.
Fifty percent of Turing College students are already working in tech and want to upskill themselves to upgrade their careers. The school has the right Data Science course and a vast network of hiring partners to help you level up your career.
The Turing College Education
Turing College’s Data Science course features a curriculum co-created with leading tech companies providing its learners with training that is 100 percent matched to market needs. The course gives its learners the real-world skills and practical experience they need to be job-ready, even before graduating from the course.
The Data Science course covers the following topics:
- Data Wrangling with Python
- Data Analysis
- Machine Learning
- Deep Learning
- Individual Specialisation Module
The course takes approximately eight to 12 months to complete and is taken online on a self-paced schedule. This allows learners to pace themselves and enables them to take charge of their own learning.
The Turing College learning platform is another unique feature of this program. This online personalized platform contains and supports all of a learner’s projects, standups, sprints, code reviews, retrospectives, and one-on-ones allow learners to customize their entire learning experience all in one space.
Another important aspect of the program is peer-to-peer learning that gives the students opportunities to work in teams and learn from each other. Each week, learners have at least three hours of consultations with industry specialists, allowing them to learn directly from data science experts. Working with teams and mentors also echoes the experience of people already working in data science roles.
The Turing College community—composed of Senior Team Leads, advisors, learners, hiring partners, and other staff—all actively support each other by giving and receiving feedback throughout a learner’s entire stay at Turing College and even after.
Gain real-world experiences by working on unique projects addressing various challenges faced by Turing College’s partner companies.
Take the Turing Challenge here.Aside from data science skills, the program focuses on soft skills as well. Most companies believe that soft skills are just as critical as hard skills, and Turing College makes sure that its graduates are highly proficient in both areas. Learners need to take required workshops that focus on honing their soft skills such as communication skills and time management. More than just knowledge and information, Turing College wants its learners to thrive in the workplace. This highly depends on soft skills.
When you put all these together, you get a robust Data Science course that fully prepares its learners to be job-ready after the program and upgrade their careers.
Job Placement Program
Student outcomes are a top priority at Turing College. It has an effective job placement program that includes working directly with partner tech companies. One unique aspect of the program is that hiring partners create projects that learners work on as their final project. The project covers the partner’s technical stack and business problems. This project is customized to meet the hiring partner’s needs, giving the learner real-world project experience that helps them get hired later on.
Each successful learner also gets the Turing College Endorsement after graduation. The endorsement shows hiring partners that a graduate is ready to join their team. Turing College also works directly with companies to define data science jobs and match them accurately with their graduates, which helps graduates get hired faster and with a salary that meets expectations.
Another vital part of the job placement program is the personal development programs that all learners go through. For employers, soft skills such as time management, growth mindset, and communication are just as necessary as hard skills. This is especially true when hiring for a junior role.
Learners are required to attend six workshops that elevate the learner’s awareness of soft skills. Their progress on these soft skills is tracked through research-based self-reflection questionnaires. Students also have one-on-one meetings and feedback sessions with mentors that continue to hone these skills.
The job placement program is a crucial part of Turing College. From a learner’s first day until they find career success, Turing College is there to support them.
Turing College Outcomes
Turing College is fully committed to helping learners upskill and level up their careers. This is evident when its learners are hired even before completing the program. One of these graduates is Mantas Pieža. He was hired as a data analyst by European insurance giant Gjensidige.
Unlike other learners who have previous experience in Math or programming, Mantas came to Turing College with little knowledge and skills in these fields. What he did have was excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as a background in hospitality.
Despite his lack of programming background, Turing College recognized Mantas’ potential early on. His positive attitude, determination, and openness to learning were evident, and he soon became a Junior Team lead, helping support his fellow learners. He led daily standups and worked closely with fellow learners to identify any inhibiting learning and growth issues.
It hasn’t even been a year since Mantas’ joined Turing College and he is now ready to take the first step in his data science career. “I can’t imagine reaching this milestone so quickly without the help of Turing College. That’s not just because of the course material itself. Turing College provided full support from step one of the journey all the way through to getting hired,” Mantas shared. “I am so excited because I really think Gjensidige is a place where I see myself being able to grow as a person and, of course, as a professional. It’s just the first step in a long yet exciting journey.”
Leon Milosevic is another graduate who is starting his journey in data science, thanks to Turing College. He was hired as a junior data quality engineer by EPAM Systems, a leading product development and digital platform engineering agency.
Leon’s path to his new job hasn’t been as straightforward as other learners, but he always had an interest in data science. “I wanted to be in data science before I started learning how to code. For me, data science is an important tool for the future. It is a way for us to automate a lot of the repetitive tasks that humans currently have to do,” Leon explained.
Before teaching himself to code and entering the field of web development, Leon was a professional athlete. He played American football professionally in Hungary and Turkey, and was part of the 2016 champion team Miskolc Steelers. He applies the same focus and grit that helped them win a championship in his data science career, beginning with excelling at Turing College. He was chosen as Junior Team lead and helps support peer-to-peer learning.
Leon enjoys the real-world problems that Turing College teaches its learners to solve, and he thrives when challenges come his way. “I was expecting it to be a bit easier since I had coding experience, but it turned out not to be so easy after all,” Leon shares. “But that is what’s fun about it. Constant challenges and innovation!” This can-do attitude has led Leon to successfully upskill himself at Turing College and is now ready to apply his new skills to his new job.
Mantas and Leon are great examples of student success for Turing College. They both attended Turing College to upskill themselves and land fulfilling jobs in their new chosen field—data science. Their determination and hard work combined with the Turing College experience helped them achieve their professional goals of leveling up their careers.
