Sabio Coding Bootcamp has come a long way since its inception in 2013. What started as an initiative to ‘mentor’ the next generations of innovators is now a leading school in tech, boasting an 80% success rate and producing over 800 professional software developers. Today, Sabio stands tall among other coding education providers in the U.S., with a track record that speaks volumes of its repute.
At Sabio, everyone is welcomed. As Co-Founder Liliana Aide Monge said, “Our ultimate goal is to help you launch a new career, develop your talent to become a highly-skilled professional and build the life you’ve always wanted”.
In its efforts to promote inclusion and diversity in the tech sphere, the school has launched various plans that are meant to empower tech enthusiasts, especially those from underrepresented groups. These include Sabio’s Women in Software Engineering and Military Veterans in Tech initiatives.
In this article, we are going to take a closer look at the latter—a campaign that aims to serve those who have served the nation.
Sabio and Veterans in Tech
The school was one of the first bootcamps in California to ever accept the GI Bill for Military Veterans and or Military-Connected Individuals in 2018, after two years of discussions with the California State Approving Agency for Veterans Education (CSAAVE), a part of the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CalVet) that operates under the authority of the US Department of Veterans Affairs.
The initiative allowed veterans with strong interests in tech to explore a career path that otherwise would have been difficult to pursue due to the lack of alternative resources and relevant networks.
With this announcement, select veterans were able to use their benefits to enroll in Sabio’s Full Stack Web Development Training Program and were also eligible to receive a Basic Allowance For Housing based on its Culver City main campus address.
“Sabio’s the only coding bootcamp in California that has survived the bureaucratic hurdles required to work with the VA. It says something about our commitment to veterans and to military-connected individuals that we would dedicate time and resources to this effort.
“For veterans that do not have 100% benefits, we collaborate with a couple of different nonprofits to help meet your funding gap. We also are willing to work with Voc Rehab and the Department of Rehabilitation,” the school said when the effort first launched.
Two years down the road, the school shows no sign of stopping. It has, in fact, added multiple other offerings that cater to military veterans:
Partnership with the Veterans Chamber of Commerce
In July, the school has announced a unique partnership with the Veterans Chamber of Commerce to help more veterans become tech entrepreneurs. Through this collaboration, veterans-slash-aspiring-businesspeople can get the push toward the right direction, with the help of the Chamber’s Executive Director Mr. Joseph Molina, and other members including the founder of veterans-focused non-profit, TenHut, Mr. Pedro De Leon Jr.
Since early this year, the Chamber has conducted a couple of live workshops with Sabio Fellows and it will continue to offer support in the forms of one-on-one mentorship and consultations for those interested.
“Everything we do is in support of our veterans and their families,” the Chamber said.
There are a lot of exciting initiatives lined up for 2021—when the pandemic is no longer expected to be a health threat—including in-person coding and entrepreneurship workshop at various military bases.
Women Veterans in Tech Initiative
Through this effort, Sabio focuses on streamlining the resources to help women vets build a successful and sustainable career in tech.
At WomenVetsInTech, active duty or transitioning service members and veterans can find all the information they need to secure a firm footing in the tech industry. The website is a one-stop-center that features everything from career road maps, financial resources, scholarship opportunities, and even success stories to inspire fellow female vets.
“Serving your country is an extremely important and invaluable journey to take, and for your next phase we aim to provide you a streamlined and easy process to help you succeed,” the school said.
Why Start Your Tech Journey With Sabio
There are plenty of positive things to rave about when it comes to Sabio, but the only reason you’d need right now is that the school understands that this is a rough period for everyone. Beyond that, that understanding is translated into policy adjustments that would make the most sense in these turbulent times.
Comprehensive financing options for all
Sabio believes that everyone should always have the option to change their careers if they want to and this starts with getting the right education that fits your needs, interests, and goals.
“No matter what your current financial circumstance might be, or what your credit history says, we want you to feel the excitement and eager anticipation of enrolling without the anxiety that comes from the economics of it all,” the school said.
To help with the process, the school offers a wide array of payment plans including its latest option dubbed Code What’s Next. This innovative financing program allows students to pay as little as $8.95 per month while studying and during the job-searching period. You will only continue to pay $199 monthly to the school in your first year on the first job. Sabio will continue to offer continuous mentorship and technical reinforcements until you make $100,000 annually.
This option also offers a flexibility like no other—students can suspend their monthly payments if they are ever unemployed. This eliminates additional financial stress in a time of duress. Learn more about other payment plans and find one that works best for you.
Coding in the time of COVID
There is no better time for you to pick up a new tech skill and in this difficult time, Sabio has made it easier than ever with an online course that is currently open and 100% free. This free Online PreWork class comes with six hours of weekly live support via Zoom Video Conference. Find the online resources, community, and support you need on SabioCandidates.Slack.Com.
Meanwhile, the school announced that its in-person campuses are still open to students who are in great health conditions, assuring that those who are unwell will be instructed to go home. It also added that there are adequate cleaning and disinfectant supplies on-site to keep the facilities clean.
There are also three residential locations that are still open to Sabio’s veteran students. As previously said, veterans pursuing an education at the school are eligible for a monthly housing allowance that depends on a number of factors. Those who opted for in-person programs will get a larger monthly housing stipend compared to those enrolled in online courses.
“We do not want to put our Military Veterans’ financial well being in jeopardy by closing our physical locations. We would only close our physical training locations if the U.S. Veteran Administration allows us to do so and we are given certainty that our Military Veteran Students will not be negatively impacted,” it said.
Career-centric education
According to LinkedIn’s Emerging Jobs 2020 Report, there are over 750,000 unfilled information technology job openings in the U.S. today. However, we know that tech education doesn’t always come cheap and in most cases, can take years to complete.
Sabio, with its curated curriculum and additional reinforcements, can accelerate your education and equip you with the skills you need to become a software engineer or a web developer in just months.
“The priority during this time seems to be the acceleration from learning to earning…It is important to think long term and careers like software engineering are uniquely positioned to allow you to start remotely while receiving a high-paying salary,” Sabio said.
State-approved education
As prospective students, it is understood that your rights for a quality education should be protected. With Sabio, you don’t have to worry about the possibility of your courses being cut short—and subsequently losing a significant amount of money and time—due to issues with legal compliance.
Sabio is registered with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, a state-run public agency tasked with protecting students that want to attend private-post-secondary schools.
“Attend a coding bootcamp that is approved by the State of CA Bureau for Private Post Secondary Education so that your investment of time and effort is protected,” Sabio recommends.

Life-Changing Journey
Sabio is known for its honest outcomes reporting and transparent policies. With Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer Mr. Gregorio Rojas as lead instructor and mentor, students—including veterans—have found Sabio to be a transformational and rewarding experience.
Pierre Gober | Sabio Alumnus and Share Point Developer
Pierre Gober was with the Marine Corps between 2013 to 2017, where he performed tasks related to system administration. After his service, he continued doing the same job for two more years before deciding that he wanted something more fulfilling.
“I quit my job and went back to school, but started also looking for bootcamps that were covered by the GI Bill. That’s how I found Sabio and after talking to Liliana (Sabio’s Co-Founder and CEO,) I learned that through VETTEC I could basically do the whole thing for free. I knew I had to take a chance and do it.”
Mr. Gober, who had no prior knowledge of coding, has taken on multiple tech roles in various companies since graduating from Sabio. He attributed his current success to the school’s effective curriculum, supportive environment, and additional support.
“In a traditional four-year education, each semester is like five-months long but in coding bootcamps everything is accelerated and fast. There are other people with you, making something great, something that you create with your mind,” he said.
“Sabio takes folks who know little or no web application knowledge and turn them into professional developers. I mean, I love my job now and I’m making 50k more a year off the bat, this is like a dream come true to me.”
Richie Galinato | Sabio Alumnus and Startup Co-Founder
A Navy veteran, Richie Galinato had always known that he wanted to build his own projects. After getting out of the service, he went to a business school and took on a few jobs before realizing that he belongs in tech.
“Back in 2017, Sabio was the only school at the time taking the GI Bill and offering veterans services. I went to two other info sessions at other bootcamps but they were doing just sales pitch while Sabio gave me the number and information that I need, including what I’d be learning,” he said.
With Sabio’s help, he got one step closer to his dream career. In May, he successfully raised $250,000 of pre-seed funding to establish his own business called Prospect. Mr. Galinato noted that the team of staff at Sabio has really helped him better understand the ins and outs of the industry.
“In the military, 100% of the time you’re told what to do. With Sabio and learning to code, it’s completely different. You have to also figure some things out on your own. My instructor (Jeremy) was awesome. He was there to guide me and point me in the right direction. When I was really stuck, he stayed back to help me work through issues that I was going through. Sabio really gave me the foundation that I needed to really learn.”
