According to Colaberry, graduates report an average starting salary of $80,000 and jobs in top-tier companies, such as Bank of America, Microsoft, Citi, and Accenture. These numbers paint a clear picture of what Colaberry students can experience after graduation. Don’t take our word for it. Take Linet Ogoti’s, a prime example of a student who has succeeded through Colaberry.
Colaberry Alumni Linet Ogoti
Before entering the world of data science, Linet Ogoti had been working as a human resources analyst for four years. Despite excelling in her job, she was getting frustrated with how it was still difficult to advance in her career. Seeing how her friends have earned success as data analysts, she decided to pursue the same career.
Her first step: enroll in Colaberry’s Data Analytics program. She shared, “I chose Colaberry because two of my friends who had attended the bootcamp recommended it. I found Colaberry’s structured curriculum especially appealing. I had taken some online courses before, but I did not complete them due to a lack of motivation. I knew this would not be the case with Colaberry because their courses are well structured, and they [remove you] from the course if you miss more than three classes.”
True enough, Linet benefitted from Colaberry’s technical training as well as its job placement program. “It helped me work on interview questions, especially dreaded questions…The program also instilled confidence that I had lacked prior to joining the bootcamp,” she shared.
Armed with this confidence, Linet started her job search as soon as she completed her final Colaberry project. After her first job interview, she received and accepted a job offer. Seven months later, Linet still enjoys her role as a business intelligence developer at the electronic manufacturing company, TTI, Inc.
How Colaberry Ensures Student Success
Aside from technical training, Colaberry offers several unique features and services that set students up for career success.
One-on-One Mentorship
As students advance their journey in Colaberry, they’re paired with a mentor with whom they have shared career paths, professional goals, and interests. These mentors guide students toward fulfilling their professional goals.
Internship
This happens in the final stages of the program. Students choose a tool to focus on, such as Tableau, QlikView, Power BI, Data Warehousing, and enter an online Center of Excellence.
Students work on in-depth projects that go through a rigorous 34-step process. Each project is regularly critiqued by a Colaberry architect until completion, but everyone in the Center of Excellence can view, study, comment, and learn from each other’s projects. This is all done in an online venue, the Colaberry app.
Colaberry App
The app has a dedicated chat feature that allows students to interact with the Colaberry community. Students practice interview questions using Colaberry’s AI-Driven Video Feedback System as they watch various videos that walk them through building essential human skills like the art of communication.
Colaberry Network
This is a repository of projects to which Colaberry students and alumni have unlimited access. Here, they can explore different projects that include step-by-step instructions and industry best practices they can learn from for their own projects.
Each Colaberry student has their own profile on the network, which highlights their project, bio, LinkedIn profile, digital badge, and video resume. The bootcamp uses proprietary AI technology to assess students’ video resumes, ensuring that their digital resumes are optimized to meet the demands of hiring managers. The profile also includes a student’s DiSC results.
DISC Assessment Tool
This helps people develop self-awareness and improve communication, teamwork, and productivity. Students can share their results on the Colaberry Network, helping them gain a deeper understanding of their personalities and focus on areas where they need to improve. Students also share their DISC assessment dashboards on their digital resumes for potential employers to see their unique strengths.
Colaberry Database
Students’ bios are also included in hire.refactored.ai, which houses Colaberry’s database of over 2,000 graduates. Employers can add job postings to this database and students can apply for these positions directly. Interview scheduling, texting, and online interviews between employers and students can also be conducted on the online platform.
That’s not all. This year, Colaberry is taking it to the next level by utilizing AI software that will submit each student’s application to 25 to 50 jobs per week. This process starts as the student nears the end of their program. The automated process takes the burden of submitting job applications from the student so they can focus on interview preparation and delivery instead.
Others
Other effective job placement services and activities that Colaberry offers include monthly Data Talent Showcase events where students showcase their projects before judges, including employers and executives in the Data Science and Analytics space.
They can also participate in monthly Colaberry Virtual Job Fairs, which involve spot interviews with actual hiring managers and recruiters with open positions; communication skills challenges among students; and robust alumni chat groups and directories.
These features and services all work together to help students launch successful data careers.
Meet Colaberry’s Mentors
Colaberry mentors play a critical role in the bootcamp’s student success. This is why not anyone can be a mentor at Colaberry. To qualify, they should have significant professional experience to guide students from training to employment. To give you a better idea of Colaberry’s mentorship program, we interviewed two mentors from the bootcamp.
Colaberry Mentor Shireesha Ravi
First on the list is Shireesha Ravi. Shireesha’s over 10 years of professional experience in tech speak for her expertise and qualifications as a mentor. When she’s not mentoring Colaberry students, Shireesha’s working as a Power BI developer for Northwestern Mutual Insurance, where she collaborates with product managers, engineers, and designers.
Her experience in tech has allowed her to see the frequent roadblocks that people face while trying to break into the industry. For her, it’s the lack of experience, education, collaboration, and communication skills that top the list.
This is where Colaberry steps in. “Colaberry offers all tools and opportunities to hone all the soft skills along with the training that is needed for obtaining a data analyst career,” said Shireesha.
“Colaberry provides many different ways to improve and learn these skills by participating in programs such as the Career Accelerator Program, the Career Accelerator Program (CAP) with interview prep, and the Career Accelerator Program with a data talent Showcase, and internship.”
She continued, “The Colaberry mentorship course is an important program offered by the bootcamp. Students collaborate with experienced professionals who can provide guidance, support, and expertise. [Mentors] also provide them with job support once they have found work.”
Shireesha’s confidence in the bootcamp’s mentorship program is grounded in her experience when she was a student at Colaberry. “My friends and I started at the bootcamp, went through the interview prep bootcamp, CAP, and internship programs, and all of us were placed within a year. I have participated in all the programs offered by Colaberry, which provided me with the right help and guidance to build my profile and self-confidence and land my first job,” she said.
Mentor’s tip: As both an alum and a mentor at Colaberry, Shireesha had this advice to give, “The most important quality of a student is to be willing to learn and work hard…There is an Indian proverb that says even a mother does not feed you without asking. It’s the same thing [for Colaberry], nothing is gained without working for it.”
Colaberry Mentor Jemilyn Grisham
Another Colaberry mentor is Jemilyn Grisham, who likewise boasts significant experience in tech. “I’ve been a Technology Strategy Consultant with Deloitte, one of the largest professional services firms in the world and considered as one of the ‘Big Four’ that provides services to Fortune 500 companies.”
As a consultant, Jemilyn wears many hats. “I manage projects and deliver trusted advisory services in IT strategy and effectiveness, enterprise architecture, and technology-enabled business transformations,” she shared.
At Colaberry, she wears the hat of a mentor where she gets to know her mentees, particularly their career goals, and steers them in the direction of these goals. “A good mentor sees the great qualities and abilities in mentees, even if they aren’t confident enough to realize it yet. Still, those talents and gifts are discovered through discussion, intelligent questions, and tasks,” said Jemilyn.
She shared the story of one of her mentees as a testament to the effectiveness of Colaberry’s mentoring program.
“One student in my class was struggling with many things in her life—being a mom, studying, homework, haven’t worked for a while, fear, insecurities, and everything else you could think of. She was about to quit the program.”
“One night, she came to me and asked if I could help her with something due in class…While I was helping her, we got into a deep discussion about life and all of those things that were happening to her. It was good because I got to know her, and we just had a perfect mentoring moment.”
“Listening to her motivated her more, and I see a considerable improvement and advancement to complete the course. I can’t wait to see her complete her journey through Colaberry,” shared Jemilyn.
To date, Jemilyn has been mentoring Colaberry students for a year. Her motivation? Seeing her mentees overcome all challenges thrown their way as they complete their training, land a new job, and succeed with the skills they’ve acquired.
Mentor’s tip: Jemilyn offered some advice to students considering Colaberry as a means of upskilling. “Have patience—tons of it—an open and curious mind, and passion. I know it’s hard at the beginning, but once you follow your gut and passion, your career will flourish in time; not overnight, but bit by bit, and you’ll find this to be a rewarding venture.”
So, Is Colaberry Worth It?
Colaberry’s robust and innovative career support initiatives ensure that all students receive the guidance they need from the beginning of the course until they land their first job. An essential part of this is the mentorship program. With seasoned mentors closely helping its students, Colaberry graduates can achieve professional success and fulfill their goal of starting a new career in data.
