Work on Application Development
As a brand-new CS worker, you’ll sit through tons of job interviews looking for the perfect position. One of the most common jobs that you’ll run across in your employment search will be coding in one form or another. That’s hardly a surprise; programming is the lifeblood of computing, and CS grads have lots of coding languages under their belts. If you want to make practical use of that training, software development is a fantastic option.
You can opt to work as a full stack developer and tackle front and backend software apps. You might also enjoy working as a mobile application developer if you prefer working with Python, C++, and other common languages. Software engineer is another ideal avenue for CS grads and gives you the opportunity to design software solutions for your company. It’s a great choice for hybrid folks who want a bit of engineering with their coding.
Other CS Career Paths
You might prefer to use your computer science skills in a different venue than software development, of course. If you have a more creative streak and hope to use it in your working life, you might do well to branch into a field that uses CS skills in a different way than software development gigs do. In these jobs, you’ll need an eye for organization and image impact along with computer and coding savvy.
You might do well in web design, which requires a creative vision and imaginative flair to go along with in-depth computer and technical skills. If you prefer to use your creative juices to power advancements in artificial intelligence and machine learning, give machine learning engineering a shot. And, if you’re most comfortable developing solutions to storage and organizational challenges, you’ll probably love being a database engineer.
That’s the deal, boyos and girlos. Now’s a great time to be a new computer science graduate. But, if you’ve been focusing on the degree and not what comes afterward, you might be thinking, “I have a computer degree. Now what?” Our guide answers that question and shows you which careers are perfect for the recent CS grad.
