Handsome salaries, growth potential, and job security are just three of the many reasons people choose to pursue a career in tech. The news of talent shortage has been making headlines for several years now and experts are saying there are still hundreds of thousands of tech jobs up for grabs.
One of the roles that promptly need to be filled is software and application developers, as listed on the World Economic Forum’s Top 20 Job Roles in Increasing Demand Across Industries and various other reports.
As the job title suggests, the roles of a software developer include building software for a development team, writing and testing code, and integrating multiple software components and programs. The job pays well, too. Entry-level developers reported an average earning of $60,000 while more senior roles earn up to $133,000 a year.
But, the question remains, “How do you get there?”
The simple answer is you need to have the right skills. Coding bootcamps are becoming a favorite career track for those looking to build a solid technical foundation in a short period of time. They are a fast-tracked, cost-effective alternative to conventional options like colleges and universities.
If you’re looking for a way to fund your coding bootcamp tuition, you’re in the right place. DevelopIntelligence has teamed up with a Fortune 500 company to offer 20 full-tuition scholarships for its Learn to Code Bootcamp. Let’s take a closer look at how the bootcamp can help you learn the most in-demand skills at virtually zero cost.
What Is the Scholarship and How Does It Work?
DevelopIntelligence has one mission; to empower people with new skills that can help them build a future-proof career in tech. In tandem with this, the school has collaborated with a multinational financial corporation to offer a new opportunity that can further eliminate the barriers to tech education.
DevelopIntelligence is looking for 20 tech newcomers who have the drive and aptitude to launch a career in software development. With its Learn to Code Bootcamp, tech novices will be introduced to the fundamentals of coding, principles of web development, and other corresponding topics.
“Software developers are in high demand, and yet companies are struggling to find people to fill their open roles. If you’re creative, energetic, and love solving problems, let us help you become a qualified candidate with the right tech skills,” the school said.
While the full cost of the tuition will be covered by the sponsor, selected applicants are not entitled to other stipends like housing, food, or personal expenses.
What Can I Learn From the Bootcamp?
The Learn to Code Bootcamp is a 14-week program that requires a full-time commitment. It will be taught by DevelopIntelligence’s expert instructors who have years of industry experience under their belts. In light of the ongoing pandemic, classes will take place virtually until further notice.
As students progress through the full stack curriculum, they will be exposed to the tools and technologies used in front-end development, back-end development, and DevOps, among others. Students will also be working on hands-on projects. The curriculum culminates in a capstone project where students are able to demonstrate their newly-acquired proficiencies.
“Prior coding knowledge is not required. We are looking for individuals from non-technical backgrounds with the right motivation and passion to make that shift into tech.
“The course will also help you develop your soft skills like working effectively as a team and ways to contribute to that team. At the end of the course, you’ll be ready to take on junior roles in software development,” DevelopIntelligence said.
Classes will take place from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET on Monday to Friday, starting from April 26, 2021, to July 30, 2021. Students are advised to clear out their schedules throughout the course duration to ensure that they’re able to focus entirely on the immersive program. Should there be any emergency, students can discuss their options with the instructors.
Will I Get A Job After the Bootcamp?
Graduates are encouraged to apply for open roles with the sponsor but it should be noted that their enrollment does not guarantee a job interview or offer.
However, keep in mind that the skills taught in this program are highly sought-after. According to DevelopIntelligence, 98 percent of its students since 2003 are satisfied with the quality of the courses. Considering the track record, you’d likely be able to pursue other relevant roles successfully as a DevelopIntelligence graduate.
Am I Eligible for the Scholarship?
All US citizens and individuals who are eligible to work in the country without visa sponsorship are welcomed to apply. It is open to students living in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. They need to also be able to commute to Manhattan when pandemic restrictions are lifted and classes resume in-person.
Students with at least a two-year Associate degree or equivalent work experience are highly welcomed. More importantly, students must be new to software development.
“This program is designed to help individuals transition to a career in software development and build skills in that area. This is a beginner-level bootcamp,” the school said.
DevelopIntelligence emphasized that full-time commitment between April 26, 2021, and July 30, 2021, is compulsory. Students should also factor in 20 hours of self-paced pre-course work in the transition time before the course start date.
Those with additional inquiries on eligibility can reach out to the Director of Talent Acquisition Jeret Jenkins at jeret@developintelligence.com.
What Equipment Do I Need for the Program?
The scholarship does not cover any equipment for this program. You will need to have a computer with the following specifications:
- OS: Windows 10 (NO S mode allowed) or Mac High Sierra or newer
- Processor: Dual-core 2 GHz or higher Intel i3/i5/i7 or AMD equivalent; avoid Celeron (Quad-core is ideal)
- RAM: 8GB minimum (16GB is ideal)

You also need to have a reliable internet connection to avoid facing issues that may disrupt the lessons.
How Do I Apply?
The application is fairly straightforward. Interested applicants need to fill out a brief application form on the school’s website before April 5, 2021, at 10:00 PM ET.
The scholarship committee will then review the applications and select a subset of applicants for further screening. According to DevelopIntelligence, the screening will be more in-depth and include one or more online assessments.
Subsequently, the committee will select finalists for the final stage which is an interview process. Twenty participants will be chosen and notified by April 12, 2021.
