Choosing a bootcamp to help you break into a career in tech is a big decision. There are so many factors to consider — from cost to learning style to the skills taught by a particular provider — that it can be difficult to choose the program that aligns with your goals.
Bootcamps provide a way to acquire the skills you need to pursue a career in tech in a matter of months rather than years. But choosing a bootcamp is time consuming and involves a lot of work.
The founders of Career Karma, bootcamp graduates themselves, noticed how difficult it was to choose a bootcamp. That’s why they built Career Karma: to help people navigate their transition into a career in the technology industry.
Promoting Transparency
Over the last few years, it has become clear that transparency is crucial to the bootcamp industry. To encourage more transparency in the industry, Career Karma is making more information available about three crucial parts of the bootcamp journey:
- Finding a bootcamp and submitting an application
- Student learning experience
- Alumni outcomes and job support
There are three ways Career Karma gathers information about these factors.
First, Career Karma aggregates reviews and feedback from students about their application experience. This data is collected when students are interviewing with schools and provides insight into everything from the interview process to how the bootcamps arrange financing.
Second, Career Karma surveys current students about their bootcamp experiences. This involves finding out about the pedagogies used at a school and how students feel about the curriculum and instructor support.
Finally, Career Karma gathers data from alumni to find out about the success of their job searches. This gives insight into how a bootcamp prepared them for careers in the technology industry, which is the ultimate metric to measure a bootcamp’s success.
Our Recent Initiatives
Demographics
While student feedback is crucial, there is a lack of information around student demographics and the companies who hire coding bootcamp alumni.
That’s why our team at Career Karma has been gathering alumni data which highlights the companies that bootcamp students are working at, skills and educational backgrounds of students, and the locations of coding bootcamp alumni.
Community
In addition, community is at the heart of Career Karma. As a result, we have created community “squads,” which are groups for current and prospective students to meet and discuss their careers and bootcamp experiences.
What better way is there to find out more about a training program than to talk with people who are already in that training program?
Projects
Career Karma has also been working on “Projects,” a new platform for bootcamp students and graduates to showcase their bootcamp work. On Projects, you can find the top coding, data science, web development, and design projects created by bootcamp students.
