In our previous article with Aspireship, we discussed how the industry-approved and low-cost program is regularly helping people launch successful, high-paying careers in Software as a Service (SaaS) sales.
There is no doubt that Aspireship is a leading resource for career development, though you may still be wondering what exactly is SaaS sales and why does it make a good career?
Aspireship offers free courses to help you go from novices to SaaS sales professionals.

SaaS is a business model where companies subscribe to cloud-based software such as Zoom, Salesforce, Hubspot, and Slack to help them improve, streamline and accelerate various aspects of their business. These products help businesses communicate with their customers and team, automate their marketing, manage remote work, and more.
While there is plenty of software you can buy on your own online with a few clicks, salespeople have become vital to the growth of SaaS companies. Why? Because they sell the software products to businesses. Unlike selling physical products or standard services, selling SaaS is more about identifying how aspects of the software could provide solutions to critical business problems.
In a typical SaaS company, there are several sales roles designed to support different stages of the sales process or serve unique customer segments. The most common roles are Sales Development Representatives (SDRs), Business Development Representatives (BDRs), and Account Executives (AEs).
SDRs and BDRs focus primarily on generating initial interest from prospective customers, while AEs focus on identifying solutions to business problems and guiding prospects through their decision-making process.
You can learn more about these roles and their typical compensation ranges for a first-year SaaS rep on Aspireship’s website.
Why SaaS Sales?
SaaS sales jobs, particularly SDR and BDR roles, have consistently ranked on Linkedin’s Jobs On the Rise report.
Great Benefits
A career in SaaS sales, also known as tech sales, comes with many benefits. These benefits include great earning potential with salary and commission, remote work opportunities, skills development, professional growth, and the opportunity to be a part of continuous innovation through technology, without having to code or program.
SaaS Growth Means Opportunity
There are over 31,000 open SaaS sales positions on LinkedIn at the time of writing this article, all of which have a base salary from mid-five figures up to six figures. Employers have different commission structures, but you can expect to earn higher than the minimum as long as you’re ready to work hard.
Career progression is highly possible in this field. You can start in SaaS as an SDR and with experience under your belt, move up to an SDR Manager, Account Executive, or land in customer success.
As the SaaS industry continues to grow, companies large and small will need more salespeople to ensure that they don’t miss out on their revenue and growth goals. The need for more salespeople means that companies are hungry to fill these lucrative positions, which require a more specialized skill set.

Though it’s exciting to hear about the vast opportunity in SaaS sales and how Aspireship’s program helps hundreds of career changers get jobs, you may want to hear how it works, and how it can help you make a big change firsthand.
An Aspireship Experience
You can read hundreds of Aspireship’s impeccable reviews and outcomes online, but we’ve spoken with an Aspireship alum and an instructor to get more of a personal spin on how the program changes people’s lives.
Ashley Tymm started her professional journey working in hospitality as a restaurant server, before getting a job as a Product Support Specialist at a company that was bought out by Intuit. She loved the tech experience but ended up transitioning to a sales position at another company where she thrived.
“I was lucky enough to be able to grow there, and I loved the sales side,” Ashley said. “I loved talking with people, and finding solutions to problems they didn’t know could exist.”
But her career hit a bump in the road in 2020.
“I was, unfortunately, let go during COVID. It happened really fast and I wasn’t expecting it,” Ashley said. “So I started looking around at jobs because I still needed a job to survive.”
She was able to start working as an administrative assistant for a title and escrow company before working her way up to an escrow assistant.
Ashley was enjoying the work but knew that the career path wasn’t for her, and that’s when she heard of Aspireship. She was excited to have an opportunity to merge her love of tech and sales and decided to leap. Within three weeks of signing up and passing the Aspireship program, Ashley had a new job in SaaS sales with one of Aspireship’s hiring partners.
Your Past Is a Positive
Though Ashley’s journey may seem a bit untraditional, as we’ve mentioned above, many of Aspireship’s graduates come from backgrounds outside of sales. Ashley believes that her experience as a server helped lay the foundation for her career in SaaS sales.
“Hospitality is really a big bubble, so you can really be doing many jobs from hosting to management, serving, and cooking. All of those jobs though, you’re responsible for yourself, and I think that’s what I took away from the hospitality industry,” Ashley said. “In sales, you’re also responsible for yourself. The productivity, the sales you bring in, the sales you close, and the ones you lose, that’s all you.”
It can be difficult to switch careers, but Ashley felt like taking an objective look at the process made Aspireship’s program seem more manageable.
Learning Your New Role
Aspireship’s self-paced curriculum was a bonus to Ashley. She enjoyed the way the program is neatly organized, and how it builds upon itself to introduce you to the topics you need to know.
“It was all very visual and I appreciated that,” Ashley said. “I also like the flow of the videos, where you start with an intro to some of the roles like BDR, AE, and SDR, and then learn about their daily tasks and challenges. And then the course dives into opening this whole world of lingo like processes, organization, and just the way you’re going to flow during your sales.”
SaaS sales professionals including company founders, CEOs, VPs, directors, and training experts lead each module, so students can know for certain that they’re receiving the best guidance possible.
Even though Ashley learned a lot during her studies, she believes that mastering any craft is a lifelong process. Because of this, she appreciates the continued access to Aspireship Pro after graduation.
“The continued learning that’s also available is really important, especially in sales,” Ashley said. “You’re never done learning. Processes change, communication changes, what’s working and what doesn’t work. So I really like that Aspireship offers that, it lets us know we’re still on the ‘ship.”
You’ll learn a lot during your time with Aspireship from instructors with impressive resumes.
