Aspireship’s Software as a Service (SaaS) sales training program called SaaS Sales Foundations helps people enter a tech field with a starting compensation of about $50,000 plus more in commission. This figure varies since the more consistent results you achieve in SaaS sales, the more opportunity for career progression and increased earning.
So, in reality, it’s possible to go from being in your current job with lower pay, limited benefits, and low growth opportunities, to having the ability to learn and earn more in software sales just by completing Aspireship’s SaaS Sales Foundations.

Aspireship offers a SaaS sales training program with 20 hours of content that you can complete in 30 days, preparing you for sales development rep (SDR) or account executive (AE) roles in SaaS sales. This program is asynchronous and taught by some of the sales industry’s top minds. You won’t be beholden to other people’s schedules or get stuck with outdated and irrelevant sales material. You’ll be able to set your own schedule and consume the training as it best fits your schedule.
In addition to the material recorded by industry experts, you’ll engage in several exercises including phone and video job simulations that help enforce the methods you’re learning and prove you can do the job before actually getting the job. Aspireship’s Hiring Partners
Hiring partners include companies, ranging in size from startup to enterprise, that regularly hire Aspireship graduates for both in-office and remote opportunities throughout the country. These hiring partners are thoroughly vetted SaaS companies that offer quality sales jobs to people who’ve passed the SaaS Sales Foundations course. And, Aspireship goes the extra mile by ensuring graduates find the best fit for them.
Aspireship’s employer partnerships team looks for several factors when signing partners, with these being key:
- There must be a sales leader in place.
- They must provide full-time W2 employment.
- There is a training/onboarding plan established.
Candidate Experience Team manager Katelyn MacMahan spoke to Career Karma to explain the process further.
“A big thing for us is that we really look for companies who truly believe in our model and our mission and what we do,” Katelyn said. “We believe that there are a lot of qualified people out there who have sales experience in other industries who are just as competent and qualified for the job. So if they come to us and say, ‘No, we need two to five years of SaaS experience,’ typically that’s not a partnership that works well.”
The team at Aspireship is looking for companies that believe in their mission to give people without a traditional sales background a chance to enter the industry. Sometimes, even if Aspireship’s hiring partners believe in the mission, the Candidate Experience Team can help them open their eyes to uniquely qualified candidates.
“We’re not going to go take a job description and handpick candidates who meet those requirements,” Katelyn said. “We’re actually going to show you people who probably don’t meet any of those requirements and explain to you why we think they’re a solid fit.”
How Do I Get a Job?
Students must complete the SaaS Sales Foundations course and pass an assessment to verify they’re ready for the next step. After students complete the course and pass the assessment with strong results, the Candidate Experience team steps in.
The Candidate Experience team presents the graduate with a list of job openings at Aspireship’s partner companies. The graduate then chooses the openings they’d like to pursue, and the Candidate Experience team sets them up with interviews with companies that match their strengths and job requirements. After the interview phase, graduates receive feedback and coaching to help them cross the finish line.
“If candidates do well on the final assessment, then we set up a call to have an interview and learn more about their background, motivations, desires, and why they’re looking to make a change into software,” Katelyn said. “Then, we really explain how the graduate process works from there.”
During the onboarding process with its hiring partners, Aspireship gets details about the company’s culture, its current job openings, which characteristics and qualities they value in employees, their leadership styles, and more. They then use this information to understand how each company fits a member beyond the job description.
This program helps graduates move past the general recruitment phase and skip directly to interviews with some of the best SaaS companies around.
“The benefit is we’re presenting our graduates directly to the hiring leader in this scenario,” Katelyn said. “So, a lot of times we’re not even having to submit an application to wait and see if you’re going to be considered. We get direct feedback pretty quickly from the hiring team on if they’re interested in setting up an interview.”
Aspireship’s Outcomes
Aspireship grads most commonly land jobs as sales development representatives (SDRs). These professionals are responsible for researching potential clients and cold contacting them through numerous avenues to begin the sales process.
This role is where you’ll start at most companies if you have no previous sales experience on your resume. You can earn around $50,000 to $60,000 base pay with more in commission for an on-target earnings (OTE) of about $65,00o to $90,000.
If you do have prior sales experience, your Aspireship experience could help you make the leap to an account executive (AE) position. They are responsible for generating leads while also taking leads that SDRs generate and closing them.
In this role, you can earn about $50,000 to $65,000 base salary and $50,000 to $55,000 in variable commission, for OTE of $100,000 to $120,000, according to Aspireship. Though these figures represent the averages, every professional gets compensated differently.
Katelyn and the rest of the Candidate Experience teamwork to make sure every Aspireship graduate knows the possible compensation range before a role comes up.
“We’re able to be very upfront and honest with candidates by letting them know the base and OTE from the very beginning stages,” Katelyn said. “And as our partnerships have grown and established themselves, a lot of times our partner will come into negotiations with a range in mind. But then they’ll make an exception because a person has additional training or blows them out of the water with a role play.”
Katelyn believes that understanding the compensation structures of the industry and how they differ from other industries has helped lots of candidates level up in pay as well.
“A lot of times, as people are looking at the base and OTE, we work to kind of break it down and help them understand they should be looking at the OTE goal,” Katelyn said. “Of course, you can’t bet on that. But you’re here to work hard and this is the job you’re signing up for. So you shouldn’t have any expectations below that for yourself.”
Whether you’re a seasoned professional with plenty of connections in the industry, or a newcomer looking for a way in, Aspireship has something to offer. A recent graduate learned that firsthand after Aspireship helped him accelerate his job hunt.
Hear from an Aspireship Grad Who Got Hired In Two Months
After completing his Aspireship program, Dan Wolff was placed with one of Aspireship’s partner companies. Dan had already tried to launch a sales career on his own, but he found himself hitting a wall before joining the program.
“Breaking into the tech industry is a daunting challenge,” Dan said. “I started to get discouraged for a while because I didn’t have any connections and my applications were getting rejected without companies even giving me a chance.”
But his experience with Aspireship quickly helped him boost his career change.
“I started working with Aspireship, and in less than two months I’ve already been hired as a Sales Development Representative at a tech company,” Dan said. “It was exactly what I needed at this stage in my career to helping me pivot into SaaS sales.”
Dan attributes his success in the program to various factors. He enjoyed the online learning process and how its structure tested his newly acquired knowledge.
“I loved Aspireship’s online training program,” Dan said. “It was the right balance of challenging, yet doable. It’s all online and they have an easy-to-use portal. The training is a combination of engaging videos, quizzes, and interactive practice.”
Not only was the online learning portal a highlight of Dan’s Aspireship experience, but he was also impressed by the fact that he didn’t have to pay anything.
“I really appreciate that they don’t do income share agreements (ISAs) like many of their competitors,” Dan said. “They partner with lots of tech companies that pay to get good graduates from Aspireship’s program.” Read more about why Aspireship does not believe in ISAs on their blog.
One of these partners ended up hiring Dan. He was happy that he didn’t have to return to the grind of submitting applications that might be rejected. Instead, he could take advantage of Aspireship’s connections to give him the inside track on his new job hunt.
“I also really liked that they presented me to their partner companies instead of me applying directly,” Dan said. “That way, they could vouch for me. What I like about this model is that they are my connection to the companies. This was especially important to me because I didn’t have any [personal] connections [at] tech companies going into my job search.”
Much of the success of Aspireship’s model is due to its talented team.
“The people at Aspireship gave it that personal touch every step of the way, and I felt completely supported the entire time,” Dan said. “They communicated with me in a timely manner via email, LinkedIn, video chat, and even text message. I really appreciated their attentiveness and support.”
Dan’s positive experience has made him a believer. He wants people to know that there’s a path to a strong career in SaaS sales.
“If you need a job in SaaS sales—whether you’re new or experienced—start with Aspireship,” Dan said.
Accelerate Your Sales Career with Aspireship
Aspireship offers a course that trains and positions qualified candidates in front of reputable SaaS companies ready to hire. Katelyn believes that a SaaS sales career offers people a new chapter in their life stories. Since many of Aspireship members don’t come from sales backgrounds, they bring new perspectives to the field that help them stand out from other candidates.
“I think where we’ve seen people be most successful is when they really are able to be themselves authentically,” Katelyn said. “When they can say, ‘This is the background that I have. This is why I’m looking to make this pivot, and this is what I’m passionate about.’ A lot of times it’s a really impactful story. If people can kind of focus on that, I think everyone could find a lot of success in this.”
